What makes Liminal Health & Wellbeing different?

There are titles that are sometimes used in the UK and Ireland, that sound similar to physiotherapy such as physical therapist, sports therapist, and PT, but these are not subject to the same high standards of training, regulation, and Health and Care Professions Council registration (HCPC).

Physiotherapists can specialise in a number of different areas (just like doctors can). We specialise in pain management and musculoskeletal care (sometimes called MSK). This means additional training and experience.

Pain Specialist Physiotherapists work with people to help them to reduce the impact pain has on their life and their ability to function, using a number of different approaches. The approaches and treatments that pain specialist physiotherapists utilise are often different to what people expect and may include:

  • Making sense of the pain and how it affects your life, by exploring current evidence

  • Helping you to chose goals by identifying things that are meaningful to you and are related to your life and your core values

  • Working out your current ability level or function, creating a plan to improve this in a workable, safe, and goal related way

  • Learning strategies and tips to help you with pacing activity and new ways to approach and enjoy movement and function again!

  • Develop strategies to manage setbacks and flare ups when they occur

Pain specialist physiotherapy can help you by using these approaches to increase independence, participate in activities with your loved ones and, lead an enjoyable life.

What is the blue/green mind philosophy?

Spending time in green and blue spaces such as parks, beaches, gardens, near any body of water or natural landscape—offers a wealth of benefits for both physical and mental health. Research suggests that being in nature for at least 120 to 150 minutes per week is associated with optimal well-being. So why not learn to embrace of green and blue spaces. Your mind and body will thank you!

HERE’S WHY:

Physical Health Benefits: Spending time in green and blue environments has been linked to lower cortisol levels, reduced blood pressure, improved cholesterol levels, and overall better self-reported health.

Stress Reduction: Exposure to green and blue spaces can help reduce stress. Whether it’s a leisurely walk through a park, on the beach, or a hike in the woods, these activities have a calming effect on our minds and bodies.

Improved Mood: Nature positively impacts our mood. The simple act of being outdoors can lift our spirits, enhance our sense of purpose, and provide a feeling of connection to the world around us.

Connection: Engaging actively with nature—whether through gardening, cycling, or trekking—fosters a sense of contentment. It connects us to something greater than ourselves, promoting social well-being as well as nature connectedness.

In addition, doing activities in groups can create community support and reduce isolation and loneliness.

So, whether you’re caring for someone else or prioritising your own well-being,Liminal Health and Wellbeing can support you to get the most from the healing embrace of green and blue spaces. Your mind and body will thank you!
